Cover yourself
This is a wilderness we are talking about, there are many bugs outside. From mosquitoes to any other insects are there. Get yourself a cover. Clothing is you first defense. Wear comfortable long sleeves to cover your arms from unwanted little stings. Put on some insect repellant lotion and bring along a handy one.

Have some hiking stick
A hiking stick could be very handy. Hiking stick can help you increase momentum on uphill climbs and can be pretty useful when you are treading along large boulders. Use your hiking stick to beat a few nearby bushes and check for some unwanted animal like snake.

River Crossing
Always take extra precaution when you are about to cross bodies of water. Make sure to keep your sandals with you. Don’t cross barefoot, there are bigger chances you will slip on the rocks this way. If you don’t have sandals with you, use your shoes but remove the socks. Once again, never cross barefoot. Beware of algae. Bridges and stones covered with algae can be quite slippery and dangerous. You should be okay with a hiking stick when crossing ankle deep waters.
